The Art of the Handwritten Letter

Before the days of emails and texts, we had to write handwritten notes and letters to communicate. (Yes, we did have phones way back in the 60s and 70s but long-distance calling could get expensive.) It did take longer but wasn’t it nice to get something besides bills in the mail?
I remember being young and receiving letters from my sister who at the time lived in New Jersey. She wrote often, I’m assuming she was a little homesick, and besides writing to Mom and Dad, she even wrote to me and our other sisters. It was fun to get the letters from her, and we looked forward to seeing them in the mail every week.
In later years, my son was in the military (still is) and when he was in basic training, he wrote us letters because they weren’t allowed to call home often. I missed him so much – my first child moving away was hard – and looking forward to seeing these blue and white servicemen stationery envelopes arrive in the mail was the highlight of the week and was our only connection for what seemed to be forever.
Thinking back on these treasured memories has got me to thinking, there are so many nice stationery items that are still available, maybe just occasionally, wouldn’t it be nice to send and receive such notes from a friend or family member? There is nothing like sitting down with pretty stationery and an attractive, quality pen to wish someone a heartfelt greeting. Why not, instead of a birthday or get-well card, send a letter or note on pretty paper and genuine handwriting? Tucking in a pack of flower seeds or a nice bookmark as a little gift would be so appreciated. For a finishing touch, why not add a stamped seal? Isn’t it the little things that really matter in life?
You are probably thinking that postage stamps are now over 70 cents, but in the scheme of things, aren’t we paying a lot of excessive money on other frivolous things? A friendly letter sent to someone special is well worth it, don’t you think?
Share your thoughts on whether letter writing is a lost art, and maybe so consider, and maybe something you would like to consider,

DID YOU KNOW… Letter writing utilizes different parts of the brain. The shifting from thought to writing gives us a better perspective and strengthens our thought processes. It also builds human connections, reduces loneliness and provides joyful emotions in both the sender and the receiver!

Wishing you warmth, comfort, and a home that hugs your soul!
